The MAP UK Pole Championship was back for 2024 once again, run in conjunction with Match Fishing Magazine this pole only event has been growing in popularity year-on-year.

Three qualifiers held at Puddledock Farm in Essex, Packington Somers near Coventry and Lindholme Lakes in Doncaster provided us with a mix of anglers from across the country who would battle it out for the 2024 title!

This year’s final was to be held at the famous Tunnel Barn Farm Fishery in Warwickshire, dominated by pole fishing tactics and packed with f1s, carp and silverfish the venue offered the perfect battle ground for our finalists.

The match was held across New, High, Canal and Club Pools, with plenty of space to give the anglers the best possible chance of competing wherever they drew on the day.

In the morning many anglers fancied a draw on New or an end peg on either Canal or Club but with so many fish present, nobody could be certain where the winner would come from.

The weather had thrown a spanner in the works for the final though, with strong gusty winds making long pole fishing difficult, heavy showers forecast and most importantly, the temperature had dropped dramatically with the day feeling more like early November than the start of September!

This, would certainly have a bearing on the fishing and weights were expected to be lower than usual.

As the match began, there were landing nets in use everywhere you looked as the Tunnel Barn f1s proved reliable once again, lots of smaller stockies were being caught along with a few better fish but it would all be about consistency on a day like this one.

Watching on as the match developed it was difficult to pick out a front runner, Jamie Adcock on the end peg of Canal was catching well – a better stamp of fish than others on the lake too. While over on Club Pool, Jon Arthur was also plodding along in the corner putting a few fish in the net where he was finding some quality carp.

A final hour downpour left the finalists soaked and bit chilly but the atmosphere around the venue was fantastic, as the final whistle blew Tunnel Barn had provided a fair and enjoyable match for all.

Some would be going away ruing that they didn’t try something else, or a few lost fish that may have cost them dear, such was the competitiveness on show.

After the weigh in, our champion was confirmed – Jon Arthur had done enough from Peg 13 on Canal Pool weighing an impressive 91lb 13oz of mainly carp with a few f1s to take the title for 2024.
