MAP Distance Feeder Rods – Explained!

On some venues, fishing at greater distances can be key to success and having the correct kit for the job is all-important.

There’s nothing worse, and we’ve all been there, than trying to push an under gunned rod to ranges that it was never designed for and this is where accuracy and distance can suffer.

Over the years with the rising popularity of feeder fishing, rod design has come on leaps and bounds, meaning that there are rods available for every scenario you could think of, including fishing at extreme distances.

In the MAP rod ranges, we’ve included dedicated Distance Feeder rods in both the Parabolix Black Edition Pro and Extremis rods ranges to cover all bases when faced with demanding venues and fishing situations.

The lengths of the rods are the similar in both ranges with 3.6m, 3.9m, 4.0m and 4,2m models available, but there are differences in the actions that really do enable these rods to be tailored to different venues.

As a guide, the Parabolix Pro rods offer lots of power for casting a big distance but with a slightly softer action than the Extremis rods, making them excellent all-rounders at home on commercial and natural venues alike.

The Extremis Distance rods are altogether more powerful in their action, making them the choice for fishing at the biggest distances, catching big fish and they’re also very much at home on fast flowing rivers too.

What is common across both the Parabolix Pro and Extremis distance rods are the use of American Tackle TI Air Force Guides, these are minimal in design, to reduce weight and increase rod recovery on the cast amounting to extra distance and accuracy in casting.

The guides are oversized throughout, to allow optimal line flow cutting down on drag and making it easy to use shock leaders which are used often in a distance casting scenario.

We have also spent time on ensuring that the tips themselves are tailored to this demanding style of fishing.

We have paid particular attention paid to the guide spacing, once again featuring oversized guides throughout, to ensure ease of casting and eliminating drag which can reduce your overall casting distance.

At the very tip, we've included an anti-frap guide, this has proved to be incredibly effective in avoiding crack offs when putting everything into a big distance cast.

After discussion with our team of consultants including former World Feeder Champion, Michael Buchwalder, it was evident that this was an important consideration in creating quiver tips that deliver the performance levels expected by top anglers.

Distances!

What distance you can cast with each length of distance rod varies, so we’ve included a simple guide below that may help you in choosing the correct rod for the fishing you do most.

3.6m – Unique to the Parabolix Pro Distance range, the 3.6m model is designed for use on commercial venues when Embed and Embed Method Feeder fishing.

Created for venues like Barston Lakes where fishing at slightly longer range than you could with a normal 12ft rod this rod delivers with some additional power. The 3.6m Distance feeder is most suited to fishing ranges between 50 and 70 metres.

3.9m – Available both Parabolix Pro and Extremis ranges, the 3.9m length bridges the gap between the distances fished with normal 12ft SUV feeder rods and distance models.

Ideal for fishing at ranges between 50 and 75 metres, the 3.9 metre rods are also useful in the same situation you’d use a 12ft SUV model, in adverse conditions where upping the weight of the feeder and casting through the wind may be required.

4.0m – This rod length is covered once again by the Parabolix Pro and Extremis brands and is the optimal length of rod for most anglers looking to send a feeder to greater range.

The Parabolix version is a softer playing action with lots of power to cast feeders a long way, but the Extremis rod is altogether more powerful, well suited to catching carp or fishing on rivers.

As a guide to the distances you can achieve with these rods the 4 metre distance feeder rods are the perfect tool for fishing between 60 and 90 metres.

4.2m – When fishing at the greatest distances or in difficult conditions a 4.2 metre rod length is perfect for the job. It’s always worth remembering that when using a rod like this that you must use enough weight to load the rod correctly, so a minimum of 40g should be used to get the most from these models.

This rod length is again covered by both Parabolix Pro and Extremis rod ranges, with the Extremis being a real powerhouse, capable of fishing at extreme range and on venues like the River Trent where big feeders need to be used.

A 4.2m Distance is designed to be a dedicated extreme distance tool, and the optimal ranges for a rod of this style is between 65 metres to over 100 metres. In testing with our consultants’ casts of over 110 metres have been achieved, showing what can be done with the correct casting technique.
